Allen is a neighborhood school of about 550 students. We pride ourselves on being a school where children are safe, nurtured, and work in a positive environment.  The staff works well together to improve student achievement and teacher skills.  We welcome and value parent participation in their children's academic program.  We have a small but active PTO that sponsors family activity nights and fundraisers, and supports our staff and students.

Allen Elementary School now has four sessions of pre-kindergarten, four all-day kindergarten and first grade classes, three classes each of grades 2-5.  We also have two Interrelated Special Education classrooms, an MR categorical classroom and two Early Childhood Special Education rooms.

We enjoy our totally new (2003) school building!  It is bright and cheerful, has spacious classrooms, a large gym that is also designed to serve as a tornado shelter, a specially designed art room and a beautiful media center. Our last addition of classroom space was completed in the spring of 2005.

Allen participates in the Title I School Wide Program designed to supplement programs with schools having a higher number of students qualifying for free and reduced meals. We purchase additional supplies, equipment, instructional materials and personnel with the Title I monies.  A Title I Instructional Coach assists the staff.  A Parent Involvement Worker creates opportunities for parents to learn and be involved in their child’s school.

Allen enjoys a tradition of participating in the school district's Battle of the Books (BOB) competition.  Upper grade students develop teams, read many books and compete at our school.  The winning team then competes in the district competition.  "Winding the Maypole" in the spring is another of our traditions.  Our music and physical education teachers and students create two programs each year for our parents and grandparents.  Our school is also proud of the sculpture projects of several years designed by local artists and created by Allen fifth graders.  They adorn Allen Elementary School inside and out!

Allen is located just east of Oliver on Mount Vernon.
